Rainy season: Huge damage recorded

The heavy rains last week caused significant human and material damage. Classrooms and acres of fields have been damaged in various regions of Burundi.

The rainy season is off to a bad start. Local media report that school infrastructure and acres of fields suffered considerable damage last week, leaving many households in unspeakable desolation.

As an illustration, in Kayanza province, four refectories of the Maramvya Technical School were disheveled by rains mixed with violent winds on the evening of Saturday, September 21, 2024. Christian Ndaribanye, director of this school, said that this school recorded huge losses in school materials following this torrential rain. He asks for assistance to enable the smooth running of school activities and the replacement of lost objects.

In the same province, nine classrooms at Bunzogi Primary School were destroyed by rains mixed with strong winds. School equipment and furniture were seriously damaged. The management of this school is sounding the alarm at the goodwill calling on them to support this school, which has already started the school year with a shortage of 100 desk benches.
