Recommendations from the international environmental symposium in Burundi: using indigenous species in afforestation projects
The president of the organizing committee of this conference and also director of the center for research in natural sciences and environment, Prof. Claver Sibomana said that during these two days, from 21 to 22 August 2024, the various stakeholders met, starting with researchers, those from the public sector who represent the various entities of ministries and those of the private sector, but also those of civil society organizations. Prof. Sibomana said that during these meetings, there were recommendations. And among the main recommendations, we talked about the use of indigenous species in reforestation projects because these species are more adapted to local environmental conditions, and therefore are likely to be more resilient to various climatic hazards or other natural disasters.
