2021 Nov 17Towards the resumption of precipitation (IGEBU)
Weather forecasts predict the resumption of precipitation from November 15, 2021 in almost the entire country if there are no periodic cyclone disturbances due to climate changes and variations that are observed throughout the world in general. This statement is contained in a press release from the Geographic Institute of Burundi (IGEBU), read on Saturday 13 November by its Director General ai, Mr. Barwihigire Thomas.
This press release follows a rainfall deficit in many regions of Burundi and other East African countries, observed in recent days.
The same press release states that precipitation is currently disturbed by the presence of cyclones that develop unexpectedly in the Indian Ocean and which divert moisture-laden winds, thus causing the rainfall deficits observed during the season.
According to this press release, the maximum duration of these cyclones is generally two weeks.
