Wastewater management has shortcomings in the municipality of Bujumbura. Very few neighborhoods are connected to the Buterere wastewater treatment plant. The worst thing is that this network is in a dilapidated state. This causes the wastewater to leave our eyes and flow into Lake Tanganyika. In other neighborhoods, wastewater is managed through septic tanks. This is a danger for the groundwater and our freshwater reservoir, Lake Tanganyika.
