On 27 to 30 May 2024, a subregional workshop was held in Bujumbura, Burundi, on the development and updating of standard operating procedures for the transport, security, storage and handling of environmentally sensitive goods in areas under customs control. This workshop was organized by the World Customs Organization (WCO) in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Basel Convention Secretariat (SCB), under the auspices of the “Trade Facilitation and Customs Modernization Programme for Sustainable Development in Sub-Saharan Africa (SIDA-WCO TFCM Programme) with funds from the Swedish Government. This event saw the participation of guests from Burundi, Kenya, Uganda.
