2016 Oct 01Basic elements for developing indicators and tools for monitoring biodiversity and threats in the Ruvubu and Kibira national parks, Burundi
This report provides the basis for the determination of indicators of biodiversity change and threats in Ruvubu and Kibira National Parks. It is part of the efforts to implement the “Strategic Plan 2011-2020 of the CBD” that a large number
of countries, including the Republic of Burundi, have committed themselves to
implementing.
It corresponds specifically to the Aichi Strategy and Objective below:
“Strategic Goal C: To improve the status of biodiversity by safeguarding ecosystems, species and genetic diversity” with objective 12 “By 2020 the extinction of known threatened species has been prevented and their conservation status, particularly of those most in decline, has been improved and sustained”.
The indicators developed will serve as references to show to what extent the results
of the OBPE's work are in line with the strategy and the objective identified above. They also indicate to what extent the state of PAs in Burundi is improving and better guaranteeing ecosystem
services to be valued in order to reduce poverty.
