The primary objective of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) is to reduce poverty in its regional member countries by contributing to their sustainable economic development and social progress.

For this purpose, it:

• mobilizes resources to promote investment in these countries and
• provides them with technical assistance as well as advice on policies to be implemented.

In 2015, multilateral development banks agreed to pursue common goals, known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
