Burundi 2000 Plus network
Réseau Burundi 2000 Plus is a national non-profit organization, created following a UNDP program called “Réseau Afrique 2000”, operational in Burundi since 1993 as a partner of grassroots communities. Following the success of the programme and on the recommendations of UNDP, the creation of an NGO was necessary to ensure the sustainability of the achievements. And so in 2002, Réseau Burundi 2000 Plus (RBU 2000+) was born. Supported until 2007 by UNDP, the NGO is now independent and has gradually expanded its network of partners and acquired numerous experiences in many provinces of the country. The vision of RBU 2000+ is to become a reference pillar for community development based on the professionalization of producers, in an ecologically protected environment and in a context of participatory governance.
RBU 2000+'s mission is to fight poverty by providing both financial and technical support to community-based organizations in order to improve their living conditions. It operates in the following areas:
- food security by increasing agro-zootechnical production and producers' incomes;
- rational management of natural resources through awareness-raising and training on practices for managing soil fertility in agriculture as well as on respect for the environment and environmental laws;
- Organization and professionalization of producers through the empowerment of producers.
