The mission of the Global Foundation for Ocean Exploration (GFOE) is to develop the capabilities and foster relationships needed to be a global presence in the world of ocean exploration, as well as an international resource for our partners. Through our work on the high seas, we are helping society understand, interpret, and protect this critical ocean environment. GFOE gives the underwater science community the tools and expertise to explore the greatest depths of the planet's deepest and deepest bodies of water.

GFOE trains the ocean exploration workforce, not only for the national ocean exploration program, but for the entire community. GFOE identifies and develops career paths for young engineers that allow them to experience a comprehensive process of designing underwater technology through applications. It is also committed to supporting filmmakers who are able to tell the story of our ocean, thereby helping to increase public awareness and appreciation about the underwater environment.
