Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Albertine Rift
WCS is saving wildlife and wild places around the world. It does this through science, global conservation, education, and the management of the world's largest network of urban wildlife parks, run by the flagship Bronx Zoo. Together, these activities change mindsets about nature and help people imagine wildlife and humans in harmony. WCS is committed to this mission because it is essential to the integrity of life on Earth.
In the Albertine Rift, the WCS focuses on three key areas of conservation support:
- landscape conservation and the establishment of functional landscapes with all their species;
- species conservation, identification of priority areas for biodiversity conservation, and understanding the ecological requirements of landscape species; and
- address the challenges that threaten the ability to manage for the conservation of these landscapes and species.
The WCS specializes in providing high quality technical (ecological and social) information and advice to protected area authorities and their partners and we participate in building the capacity of protected area authorities, government and civil society in all countries in the region in all countries in the region with various challenges they face. It is the only NGO to have worked in all the landscapes of Albertine Rift, the most biodiverse region in Africa and one of the most biodiverse sites in the world.
