Regarding the governance of these protected areas, the 14 protected areas are managed by the State, one protected area is co-managed by the State and the communities (Arboretum de Butaganzwa) and one protected area is managed by a private person (Arboretum de Bujumbura) and another protected by communities (Sacred Wood of Mpotsa).
