Fishing without gear means collecting fish by the hands or with very simple instruments such as sticks, machetes or iron hooks that have the effect of extending the arm. The striking or piercing devices hold the fish either by embracing, transgressing, piercing, fixing the fish. The difference in the method is that the spear or the club hug the fish. The tip of the spear also stays on the rod. (If the end comes off and is attached to a string or rope, the device is a harpoon). Speargons are not used in Lake Tanganyika, but they are used in other lakes in the region (particularly in Zambia).
