The purpose of Law N01/05 of 12 March 2010 regulating the production and marketing of fertilizers and soil amendments in Burundi is:

• Create a legal framework to regulate the acquisition and use of fertilizers and soil amendments;
• Enact the required standards for imported fertilizers and amendments or manufacture locally;
• Control the quality of fertilizers and amendments;
• Ensure the effective integration of private operators in the field of marketing of fertilizers and soil amendments;
• Protect farms, the environment and operators from wastes or toxic substances passed for fertilizers.
