This law was drawn up to govern the organization of the seed sector in Burundi. The purpose of this law is to:

• Create an organic framework to contribute to the development of the seed sector in order to produce agricultural seeds of high quality and in sufficient quantity;
• Encourage the participation of private operators in the production and marketing of high quality seeds;
• Establish a system of varietal certification and certification of agricultural seeds;
• Develop international cooperation in the field of seed trade.
