Signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between the FASHA Association and OBPE for the management of the Monge and Mount Heha Nature Reserve

The FASHA Association and the Burundian Office for Environmental Protection (OBPE) proceeded, this Friday, July 24, 2026, to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding relating to the management of the Monge Nature Reserve and its extensions, in particular the afforestation of Mount Heha and its surroundings.
The Memorandum was signed by Mr. Sabuguheba Patrice, President and Legal Representative of the FASHA Association, and Mr. Ir. Hatungimana Berchmans, Director General of OBPE.
Through this partnership, the two institutions reaffirm their common desire to strengthen the protection and restoration of the ecosystems of Mount Heha, the highest point in Burundi, as well as to promote sustainable management of the natural resources of this protected area.
This collaboration will notably make it possible to develop concerted actions to conserve biodiversity, reforestation, raise awareness among local communities, promote ecotourism and combat the threats weighing on the ecosystems of this strategic region.
The two partners welcome the signing of this agreement, which constitutes an important step forward in efforts to preserve Burundi's natural heritage and demonstrates their commitment to sustainable development for the benefit of present and future generations.
