L’Office Burundais pour la Protection de l’Environnement (OBPE), institution en charge des AP, a toujours misé sur l’écotourisme pour assurer son autosuffisance financière. Actuellement, suite à l’insuffisance des allocations financières par le Gouvernement pour appuyer les activités de conservation de l’environnement en général et des AP en particulier, l’OBPE doit multiplier des initiatives pour mobiliser des ressources financières. Parmi les activités importantes à mener figure le développement de l’entreprise éco touristique par la valorisation des attraits touristiques des AP et leurs milieux riverains.
